Dr André Naudé is a urologist based in Panorama, Cape Town, with a particular interest in minimally invasive urologic surgery.
Minimally invasive surgery includes laparoscopic surgery (sometimes called keyhole surgery) and robotic surgery. Both approaches use small incisions rather than large open cuts. The result is typically less pain after the operation, smaller scars, and a faster return to normal activity. Robotic surgery is a specialised form of laparoscopic surgery that allows for enhanced precision and 3D visualisation during complex procedures.
Laparoscopic and robotic surgery represent an important development in the field of urology. Few hospitals in South Africa currently offer these procedures for conditions such as prostate cancer and kidney cancer. Dr Naudé performs robotic surgery at Netcare Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in the Cape Town CBD and at Durbanville Mediclinic in the Northern Suburbs.
As a urologist, Dr Naudé treats conditions affecting the urinary tract system and male reproductive organs. This includes conditions of the kidneys, ureters, adrenal glands, bladder, urethra, testes, and prostate.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of Pretoria in 1994 and completed his Surgical Fellowship, specialising in Urology, in 2002. In 2006, he opened his independent specialist practice in Panorama.
Dr Naudé has a particular interest in prostate cancer and is listed as a prostate cancer professional by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
