Book a ConsultationA nephrectomy is the surgical removal of a kidney. It may be recommended for conditions such as kidney cancer. Depending on the stage of the disease, the size and location of the tumour, it may be possible to remove only the affected portion of the kidney. This is called a partial nephrectomy or kidney-sparing surgery. The aim is to remove the diseased tissue while preserving as much healthy, functioning kidney tissue as possible.
Robotic surgery allows the procedure to be performed through small incisions. The 3D magnified view and wristed instruments give the surgeon the precision needed to remove the tumour while carefully preserving healthy kidney tissue.
