Depending on the stage of the disease, the size and location of the tumour, it may be possible to remove only the affected portion of the kidney. This is called a partial nephrectomy or kidney-sparing surgery. The aim is to remove the diseased tissue while preserving as much healthy, functioning kidney tissue as possible.
